By having Tiger Woods off the scene for most of the 2010 season it gave light to the emerging talent from the young guns in the PGA. Not only have we been able to see their immense talent (several holes in one were made on tour this year but only a few hole in one insurance policies appear to have been taken out) but we have also seen their eye for fashion. Golf.com’s list of the top 10 fashions of 2010 include the outrageous styles of Ian Poulter, Rickie Fowler, Ryan Moore and Ryo Ishikawa and the more tame Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy.

I bet these next few golfers wish someone had purchased hole in one insurance before they made their lucky shots. Flint News of Michigan recently reported that on Oct. 1, Haylee Zyber of Swartz Creek made a hole-in-one on the fifth hole at The Fountains Golf and Banquet Center in Clarkston, Michigan. She did this during a high school “metro match’ against Brandon High School, said Deb Culver, Swartz Creek High School girls varsity coach.

The same article then informs us that Haylee is the daughter of Mark and Joni Zyber of Swartz Creek, and that she is in 10th grade. The fifth hole at the Fountains Golf and Banquet Center was playing 120 yards and is guarded on three sides by bunkers. This defense wasn’t strong enough for her purely struck 9 iron which made its way right into the cup. The shot was witnessed by her coach, Andrea Nikoloff, teammate Danielle Adams and two Brandon High School players. Swartz Creek won the match, 209-216.

It’s tough enough trying to get a hole in one on your local golf course you have played hundreds of times, but take a look at some of these courses to find the ultimate challenging holes! These holes maybe the only holes in the world that may not need hole in one insurance.

First is a hole where getting to the tee box is even difficult. The Legend Golf and Safari Resort in Africa has a hole named the “Extreme 19th hole” It is a par 3 470-yard hole with an elevated tee box that you have to take a helicopter to get to! In addition to the elevated drive, the Africa shaped green is completely surrounded by sand. Pro Padraig Harrington is the only golfer that has ever pared the hole and acing the impossible par 3 will win you $1 million! Check out the video below of Harrington’s par!

Second is an extremely well known course popular for its extremely deep bunkers. At St. Andrews Old Course’s number 17, named the Road Hole, perfection is key, with its challenging green. The 455 yard par 4 makes pros be very careful with their first shot not to line themselves up with the bunkers around the green for the second. The average on this hole is about 5 strokes although some pro’s have gotten themselves into major trouble recording 9’s during tournament play.

Third is the Golden Bell, the 12th hole at Augusta National. This short 155 yard par 3 is named the hardest hole in golf by Jack Nicklaus, so you know it’s tough! Its distance may not intimidate golfers however the quick slated green separated by Rae’s Creek combined with the wind gusts makes hitting this green almost impossible. Back in 1980 Tom Weiskopf scored a 13 on the short par 3 and just in 2000 Tiger Woods marked a 9 down on his scorecard!

Graeme McDowell, a 31 year old from Northern Ireland made his debut on the PGA Tour in 2001. Although somewhat quiet until this year, in his most recent performance at the Chevron World Challenge, Graeme McDowell proved himself once again as this year’s outstanding professional golfer. The Chevron World Challenge had Tiger Woods, who sponsors the tournament, going into the final day of play with a four stroke lead. Many thought this would be an easy win for Woods seeing as Tiger has never lost a tournament going into the finale day of play with a three or more stroke lead. Much to spectators and Woods’ surprise, McDowell started an amazing round on Sunday and gained a 2 stroke lead on Woods around the 13th hole. From there the two battled it out, both making errors, Wood’s with two 3 putt holes and McDowell with a penalty stroke after an 8 iron hit into the high grass on 17. The two were all squared up going in to the final hole and McDowell finally clinched the tournament in a playoff, finishing with a 69 on Sunday.
